Sacrifice Zone: L.A.
Educational Toolkit
Information, art, and action are key elements that make up the Sacrifice Zone: Los Angeles experience. But how can these items be put to work to create a project? This toolkit provides supplemental information, lessons, activities, and other tools to students, teachers, community activists, and anyone else who wants to learn more about sacrifice zones and their effects on our communities.
The toolkit is divided into three sections: Need to Know, Educational Lessons, and Resources. In the Need to Know section you will learn about sacrifice zones, why they’re dangerous, and how they adversely affect our families and communities. In the Educational Lessons section you will find exercises that can be used in classrooms and community gatherings alike. These lessons are focused on synthesizing the information in the Need to Know section and using it to take action. Participants are asked to use what they’ve learned to create informational posters, community speeches, and political plays. In the Resources section you will find additional tools and materials that aim to supplement the educational lessons and encourage additional community action.
We hope you will find the toolkit useful, and we hope that it will inspire you to create your own environmental justice project.
